Linda Winham's Square

Halifax Storytelling Circle and MRM
Fat Cat: the Quilt Square - Linda Winham, Bedford, Nova Scotia

Linda Winham This square commemorates the visit of Margaret Read MacDonald to Nova Scotia in September of 2008. She was invited by the Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA) for their annual conference, but when our Storytellers Circle in Halifax heard of it, we were determined to meet her ourselves. We arranged a storytelling workshop at Mount Saint Vincent University, which was attended by Education and Drama students, and some of our Circle members. We all practiced Fat Cat, one of her favorite stories to tell.

Following the workshop, Margaret and Angela Reynolds, her NSLA host, met with our Circle members at my house for a pot-luck supper-then they had to leave immediately following to drive to Cape Breton that evening! She had a very busy schedule and we were happy to have some time with her on her first visit to Nova Scotia. Hope she took home some warm memories! The quilt square is patterned on the Fat Cat book cover illustration by Julie Paschkis. (August House LittleFolk, 2001.)
